NOTES: Leaves compound, 5 leaflets (occasionally 7). Slender twigs dark purple to light green. Scaly, deeply furrowed, non-peeling, gray bark, darker than Bitternut Hickory. Nuts similar to Bitternut Hickory but larger with smooth, un-ridged shells. Grows on broad upland ridges.
