Red Oak group (acorns mature in two years, pointed-lobed leaves tipped with bristles, bark and wood dark). Small round acorns with distinct watermelon striping and shallow caps. Marcescent leaves (retention of dead leaves beyond autumn). Clustered terminal buds (like all oaks).
